This post is reflected on librarians loving the use of LibraryThing, an online social networking site. Sibleys (2009) provides ideas for using LibraryThing as an online tool for cataloging a personal library collection and that these tools are related to the tools used by information specialists. Ideas such as tagging your library of books, reading reviews of the books, and cataloging your books. Here is a view of my LibraryThing page: Click here to download LibraryThing page

I want to love LibraryThing, but I'm too lazy to catalog all my own books. =) I really enjoy the Amazon.com-style recommendations feature, though, as well as the option of adding tags to books.
ReplyDeleteLike Michelle, I'm also quite lazy. When I first learned about LibraryThing during Dr. Thiele's Cataloging and Classification course, I thought I would use it a lot more than I actually did. Cataloging my own books just isn't my thing. But most people love creating lists, so I can certainly understand the appeal.
ReplyDeleteI also learned about LibraryThing during Cataloging and Classification. It has some potential useful applications, but depending on how many books you have - there's a number limit - but it's also a bit tedious.
